With deep sorrow and gratitude for a life devoted to faith, service, and family, we announce the passing of Bishop Simmy Mathews, who entered into eternal rest on the morning of June 4, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 80.
Born on July 22, 1945, in Thannimoottil House, Thonniamala, Kerala, India, Bishop Simmy Mathews lived a life marked by unwavering devotion to God, compassionate leadership, and a steadfast commitment to serving others. Throughout his ministry as an ordained minister, a substance abuse counselor for the Salvation Army, and a devout member of the Mar Thoma Church, he touched countless lives through his spiritual guidance, humility, wit, wisdom, and dedication to the Gospel.
Bishop Mathews was widely respected for his pastoral care and his passion for strengthening faith communities. His ministry extended beyond the pulpit, as he provided encouragement, counsel, and support to people from all walks of life. His legacy is reflected in the many individuals and families whose lives were enriched by his prayers, teachings, and loving presence.
Though he spent his final days in Dallas, Texas, his heart remained closely connected to his roots in Thonniamala and to the communities he faithfully served throughout his life. He will be remembered not only as a devoted bishop but also as a beloved family member, spiritual mentor, and friend.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, kindness, and service that will continue to inspire generations to come. While his earthly journey has ended, the impact of his life and ministry will endure in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Leelamma, his three children and their spouses, Regina & Darryl, Wesley & Jaime, and Christina & Nick, his four cherished granddaughters, Jaya, Priyanka, Ava, and Leya, and his three siblings, Thomas Mathew, Annamma Mathew, Mary Koshy, and their families.
May the Lord grant eternal rest to His faithful servant and comfort all who mourn his passing.
